Diever is a town in the province of Drenthe.
Diever is located near the Drentse Hoofdvaart, a major north-south route for pleasure boats in the province of Drenthe. Next to Diever is the Drents-Friese Wold, one of the biggest national parks of the Netherlands, and a major attraction for tourists. In the centre of Diever is a brink, a square with old buildings around it. The Dutch Reformed Saint Pancratius-church is a 15th century building, and one of the most beautiful churches of Drenthe.
In July and August the local people of Diever play drama's of William Shakespeare. Diever is also called "Shakespeare-town". The plays are being played in an open-air theater and are famous in the Netherlands. It is an amateur theater group that was formed in 1946 by a local medical doctor, Mr. Derp Broekema.
